Get a mechanics stethoscope (or a long screw driver or a length of
hose) and VERY CAREFULLY use it to probe the various components until
you isolate the noise. Just be careful of spinning machinery and
moving belts while doing it.

My 00 Ranger engine (3.0 ltr 6 cyl)has been squeeling for many months. I
first changed out the tensioner bearing, it did not fix it. I then
changed out the fixed roller bearing, again it did not fix it. Before I
start swapping out expensive components (alternator, water pump, AC
compressor, etc), I was hoping someone out there has a trick to
troubleshooting this problem. Please help! |
