Default 1995 Jeep Cherokee Country drivetrain questions - 12-01-2006 , 06:46 AM

How do I know if I have limited slip differentials and/or "Track Lock"
differential?

1995 Jeep Cherokee Country
DGSS - 4-speed Automatic AW4 Transmission
DHAS - Lock-up Torque Converter
DHNS - Command-Trac Part Time 4WD System
DJHS - Dana M30/181MM Front Axle
DMDS - 3.55 Axle Ratio
DRAS - Corporate 8.25 Rear Axle

It is possible to have one in your 8.25 but even if you did it is probably
worn out by now. If you want an inexpensive locker that is fairly easy to
install put a Lock-Right in your front D30. Soft lockers do not last but a
couple of years in the back. If you got the money, put a Full Detroit in the
front. Your rear is a 27 spline axle and I believe they only make a soft
locker for it. About $250 for a Lock-Right.

I disagree on a lockright is a front axle, bad choice. Lock rights and
the like CANNOT power both wheels at different speeds like in a turn.
It is either one wheel drive with faster one coasting or two wheels
same speed. This can make steering heavy and funky at times and
increase turing radius too. Also it can make steering buck a lot in
turns because ujoints in fron axle are not constant velocity. Up front
you want a selectable locker or something like a True Trax gear based
LSD. Lots of misconceptions about what drop in replacement lockers are
and are not.
