Default 95 Grand Cherokee Question - 01-06-2007 , 07:16 PM

I recently ot my father's 95 Grand Cherokee. It has 26,000 miles on
it. There is a lot of rust particularly the brakes and brake lines. I
will have them replaced. Is there anyhing else that I should e
concerned about? The gas tank was replaced due to rust. My father
lives near the ocean, so the salt air really did a number on this car.
The engine runs great.

Put it up in the air and check everything.

I'd suggest posting on the rec.autos.makers.jeep+willys newsgroup if
your ISP gets it, as that is where more jeeperheads hang out.

If you don't have the Factory Service Manual, go to www.jeep.com and
click on the For Owners links, or just go straight to
www.techauthority.com and get one. Even if you never touch the thing,
this will be the best investment you can make.

Areas of worry would be whether any of the millions of electrical
contacts have been corroded. Problems with tail lights, problems with
oddball funny running problems, problems with lights and panels not
working, etc.

Yours is a 95 ZJ with either a V8 or a 4.0 Inline 6, either a Limited or
Laredo with or without auto temp control, and a few different 4wd
varieties. Good idea to get used to posting with that info, say for
example if you have the factory manifold on the I-6 expect it to crack
sooner or later.

Any dealer parts department can give you a build sheet with your VIN, or
you can go to the jeep web site and again go to for owners, then to
service request and ask for a build sheet with your VIN.

Check fuel line, all brake lines and tranny cooler lines too. Check
for structual damage from rust too.
