I am thinking about buying a 1999 Ford with the V-10.To avoid the
cost of the diesel to start with. I would like to put a diesel in it
later, when the V10 wears out. How hard would it be to put one in? Do
the engines have the same motor mounts and every thing or would I half
to redo all of it? Or would it be cheaper just to by the diesel to
start out with?

If you really want a diesel, it would be cheaper to get one to begine
with. Bear in mind thought that the Ford V10 is a good motor and if
you serivice it regulaly (change oil more often than owner manual
recommands) you may likely never wear it out as it should easily go a
few hunderd K miles and then some. Also during the life of a new
vehicle today, you will se more fuel option appear on market to feed
them in coming years while diesel is very limited to its fuel type. In
my "book" , when a diesel was a 2 grand option and fuel was a lot
cheaper than gas it was viable but now it is the same or more fore
fuel and it is about a 8 grand option now too so it will never pay you
back and save you any money when you factor in vehicle cost,
mantainance, fuel and everything else vs a gas truck. If you want one
that is fine but if you think it is going to be cheaper long term,
think again. One more thing to consider, the V10 is a proven engine
while the last 6.0 PS was toublesome (and still is) and on the new one
the jury will be out for a few years.

Bing! You knew the right answer from the start! If you want a diesel,
get a diesel. Conversions are rarely cost effective in the long run.
