Likely sales, no profit in it.

GM's bottom line is hurting and they cannot afford to keep making
models that are not profitable be it car or truck. Simple bean
counting here. Maybe one day they will go under if they do not get
their act together because if not it is just a question of time before
Toyota pass them too like they did Ford last year.

GM has to do more than make a profitable car and/or truck.
They have to do something go get customers back, customers like
me who after my last GM vehicle, don;t even consider GM a viable
consideration.

I read GM will close their best, least error prone plant,
rather than re-tool it. This plant is located in Canada, and
makes some Buicks and GMCs, IIRC. They average around 83 defects
per 100 autos. The average is 150+ per 100 vehicles.

To get me back, GM first must product a vehicke that appeals
to me. Currently, they do not. Second, they must give new buyers
a no questions asked, money back if not satisfied, no gimicks or
strings asked, guarantee on their vehicles. Third, they have to
stop building cars that break - even their quality standard bearer,
the Impala. A friend had the drivers side wiper go off the wind-
shield to the A pillar in a rain storm requiring high speed wipers.
It was 300+ for labor to replace the striped wiper motor. There is
no excuse for that to happen.

Frankly, I doubt I will be purchasing a GM anytime in the
forseeable future.

Possibly because congress bumped the GVW requirement up for a vehicle to
qualify for better tax treatment?

There's a GM dealer near me that is starting to carry these:

I think I've seen an SUV body built on this chassis as well driving
around town. The trucks can get bigger faster than congress can adjust
the tax laws to catch them.
