Default my 2000 chevy Z-71 4x4 - 11-07-2006 , 11:03 PM

I would like to know i can put a different transmition in it . My
transmition i have in it now 3rd and 4th gear went out in it . I have
been told by several people that have this particular transmition have
had a lot of problems with rebuilding them. They said it didn't stay
runing for a couple of months and had to rebuild it. Some body told me
to go with a ....400 transmition. would that be a wise decision or not
need some more comments on this.

THere is nothing wrong with your tranny design but rather its usage.
If you have big tires and stock gears and no aux tranny cooler it is
just a question of time before it fails. People tned to blame tranny
design rather than find out why it is failing. THe 4L60 is a good
tranny and when properly cooled and geared will take a fair amout of
abuse but gear it to talland overheat it if will fail in time. ALso
the THH 400 has no OD, no locking converter and a taller 1st gear too
(2.48 vs 3.06 with 700R4 and 4L60) THe solution here is rebuild trnny
and fix the root cause of its failures in overall gearing and cooling.
