I have a 95 chevy s10 4X4 with a 4.3 V-6 and a 5 speed tranny. Wondering
if there is any way I can continue using the same tranny. A friend of
mine claims that I can't But I was watching tv and the guys on trucks
used the same tranny. The only difference between my application and
theirs is that they had an automatic and I have a 5 speed. Any help you
could give me I would highly appreciate it. Thank You

I DO know the 4.3 is a 350 with 2 cylinders cut off the block. Call the
tech help line at Summit Racing or Rossler Transmissions or do a more
specific search at Chevy trucks.alt msn. Motor mount and cooling issues
may be all ya gotta worry about. V-8 Astro vans and S-10's are REALLY
common nowadays. HTH.

All chevy engine up until the modular motors (4.8,5.3,6.0) have same
bellhousing pattern so that is not a issue. On the tranny, you liley
have a NV3500 which is a LD 5sp. It saw service behind the 4.3, 4.8
and 5.0 from factory. With a stock 350 and if you do not abuse it is
should hold up okay just start out with fresh lube in it. Motor mounts
and cooling will be a issue as someone else stated (especailly
cooling) so you need to look into that and install a much bigger
radiator. Honestly though a 4.3 responds well to warming up and with a
good set of gears (say 4.10's with stock or near stock tires) it will
run well and if you are going to a V8 to overcome power issue because
of tires and axle ratios, your effort would be better spent with a
gear change because though a bigger engine will give ou more torque to
overcome current tire/gear setup it will also add a lot more strain to
drive line doing it too and make it more prone to early failure.
