What to buy ? a 4 cyl SUV ?

My sister lives in the San Fran Bay Area, CA. She has 2 children who
are 16 and 14. So they are quite tall.

She is looking for a 4 cylinder SUV that will accomodate her kids
comfortably in the rear seat.
She does not need a 4x4 / all AWD.

She was told that she would have to buy 6 or 8 cyl SUVs if she wants
more leg room at the back for her kids.

Are there any 4 Cyl SUVs that have the leg room at the rear seats for
her children ?

Any suggestions ?

Right now, I think the Suzuki is the best small 4 cyl 4wd off-road
capable SUV. The Subaru's are nice, but are more station wagons that
SUV and not off road. Does she want off road? Why does she want 4wd. An
older Toyota Forerunner would be superb. I have a 98 and it's the best
car I've ever owned (and I've owned at least 10). I owned a 93 Suzuki
4door SUV and it was pretty good.

I doubt she is going to find large, roomy back seats and 4 cylinder.
Maybe a Jeep Cherokee? Did some of them come in a 4 cyl?

Why buy an SUV esp with 4x4? From your own narrative it would seem a 2x vehicle would serve your needs.

Subaru's are great cars - like the Subaru Legacy.
And they have the 4wd wich can come in handy

Also - Pajero Diesel have much room and are not expensive to run
