Default 1994 suburban rear A/C - 07-03-2003 , 11:34 AM

Just had the truck in the shop since the compressor blew out. compressor
was replaced, but, a/c to rear runs hot and front was not consistent. told
me there was some type of mechanical vent that was stuck in rear and would
be fixed.

took it back to the shop and they said they did not flush the lines and were
going to remove the compressor, flush the lines and install a new compressor
and recharge.

Now they tell me my rear air has some type of problem and needs an
additional $395 to "fix"

My understanding is the rear air is simply vents coming from the front.
what could cause the rear to run hot?

thanks for your help

joe

Joe,

I don't think the rear is simply vents - the rear has its own condensor or
something like that. Dean Darwin posted a message a really long time ago
about some problems with Suburban A/C. His advice was to always run the
rear fan on Med-High when the air was on to prevent whatever is back there
from having troubles.

Since I read that, I have always had my wife do so (on the rare occasion
that she even runs the a/c). We've not experienced problems, so far. Ours
is a '94 K1500.

That fan is blowing across something because there are no vents that run the
length of the truck.

No, your "rear air" includes a heat exchanger and blower fan system
independent of the front. When the compressor munched itself, it likely
send debris downstream that could have plugged orifices and the like in the
rear system.

When my compressor ate its young, the shop quoted me a rate for replacement
that included a full purge of the system for the aforementioned reasons.
