Anyone know why the starters for this model cost so much? Had an issue with the starter shorting out causing a drain on battery and alt. Turned out to be a pretty expensive problem to fix. Thanks for the input. D |

D They are a relatively high output compact design that use permanent magnets instead of field winding. The magnets are expensive and harder to replace than a field winding. Many of the cores returned have broken magnets due to people beating on them with a hammer (or blunt object of choice) when they fail in a vain attempt to get them to work. |
