Default 1998 Chevy Silverado Dimmer Switch Replacement - 09-15-2008 , 12:22 PM

Need to replace dimmer switch. What is a good estimate of labor hours
chargeable? Need to remove air bag and possibly steering column is
what we are told. Does anyone know what is actually involved?

Last time I had the multifunction switch replaced at a a dealer two years
back (2002 Impala, but essentially it's the same procedure it was around
$500. Most of that cost ($300) was the GM parts price of the switch.

I've had steering columns apart to some extent. I wonder if it's a Detroit
column, or the newer one that's more like the Japanese. Anyhow, the
headlight dimmer switch is right behind the turn signal assembly. I'm not
sure if you have to take a lot apart, to trace the wires to where the wires
connect.

Probably two hours. The airbag isn't a big deal, I've had those off, and I'm
still alive to tell about it.
