Default 97 Silverado remote issues - 03-08-2007 , 01:46 PM

Hey,
This truck didn't come with a remotes. I have 2 from a burned 97
(loong story) but don't know if they are correct.
How can I determine if I have the correct transmitters?
How do I program them?

try this

Transmitter Programming
If they key is in the ON position during the programming procedure, the horn
chirp will be disabled, if the key is in the OFF position, the horn chirp
will be enabled. The horn will chirp when the lock button is pressed two
times.

When reprogramming the remote control door lock receiver, All transmitters
must be programmed at this time in order for the transmitters to operate the
vehicle. Transmitters not programmed at this time will not work and the
procedure will have to be redone with all the transmitters.

1.. Ground pin 4 to pin 8 of the data link connector (DLC). The receiver
will respond by locking and unlocking the doors, and activating the liftgate
window release (if equipped) within 2 seconds.
2.. Press and hold the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons simultaneously on the first
transmitter to be programmed until the locks cycle (approximately 10
seconds).
3.. Repeat step 2 for up to four total transmitters to be programmed (if
available). The receiver will respond by locking and unlocking the doors and
activating the liftgate window release (if equipped) within 2 seconds.
4.. Remove the ground applied to the DLC.
5.. Lock and unlock the doors in order to verify the transmitter
operation.
6.. Activate the rear window release in order to verify the transmitter
operation.
this is from the 98 manual .. had no 97

I think most 1997 Chevy's had a FCC ID of AB01502T on the back. The number
of button might vary whether it was for a Blazer with a rear hatch, etc.
The newer Chevy's program by
1-Hold the door unlock button down and turn the ignition on and off 3 times.
2-Release the unlock button and the locks should cycle.
3-Hold the Lock and Unlock buttons on the remote for about 20 or 30 seconds.
The locks will cycle when/if it programs successfully. Do the other remote
immediately after the first.
