Default major screwup with 4X4 tracker - 05-04-2007 , 07:33 PM

ok...did something really dumb. I towed my 2002 Tracker 4X4 AT with the
tranfer case in 4wH. Now it will not move in drive but will work in low and
reverse. What have I done? Tranfer case or transmission or both? The
transmision was in Nuetral.

thanks in advance

Is that an automatic transmission? If so, I suspect you will need to repair
or replace the transmission.

yes..it is but it is designed to be pulled with the transfer case in
neutral. but i guess you are probably right. was hoping it might just be
the transfer case.

I'm not a transmission specialist, (I just play one on the internet) but,
because it functions in low and reverse, I suspect something in the
transission which can handle low torque loads has been damaged. It might be
as simple as adjusting the bands.

Sorry, that's all I have to offer. You might cross post your question to
rec.autos.4x4.

But is it low on tranny or low on Tcase? I suspect if it is low in
gear that tranny is toast because some trannies do not lube right when
they are not running and if it is supposed to be towed in Tcase
neutral this confirms that tranny may be toast.

you trashed the tranny!! The motor has to be running to pump the trasmission
oil, I learned the hard way too!! When towing an auto tranny take drive
shaft off!!
