Cash flow has been tight, and I still have a legal amount of tread on the tires on my 07 2500Hd 4x4 so I have not yet replaced the tires. *Currently I am running a 265 75 16 on stock alloy wheels. *I would like to go to a 285 75 16, but I have been told they should not be put on my current rims, and that for the new rims I need a 5" backset. There are not many 16 inch rims available with a 5" backset. As a result one local tire shop said I should go with 17 or 18 inch. Now let me ask a couple questions. Why do I need a 5" backset? Does it have to be exactly 5"? I am not a chrome whore, and actually do not like the idea of having a huge chrome blob on the end of each axle. *A simply alloy wheel with a simple design like the one on my stock wheels is more than adequate. *(its what I like even) *With that limitation its even harder to find rims. *In 16or 17 with a 5" backset. *I have found a lot with 4.5, and a few with 4.84, and even a few with more, but not many with a backset close to 5". *I have been looking at an 8 inch rim for this application. So again, why and how precise? |
