Default Transfer Case Incicator - 09-12-2009 , 02:44 PM

I have a '99 k1500 Suburban and the transfer case position indicator light
often goes out. It doesn't matter what position it is in, 2hi, 4auto, 4
hi, or 4lo. Is this a common problem? Any ideas what is going on?
Occasionally it will light up, and other times all lights are out.

Mike D.

It can be cracked soldering connecting wires to the switch itself, or
other issues indicated by stored codes. If you have a code reader you can
simply pull them. If you don't, you can access the codes by doing the
following procedure...

Method 1 - Lights need power to operate. +12 and Ground. Get a wiring
diagram and multimeter. Test the wires supplying power to these lights with
a multimeter at various points and find the problem, then repair.

Method 2 - Replace all parts. Replace the indicator panel, replace the light
bulbs, replace the wiring harness, replace the 4x4 switch, replace the
transfer case, replace the battery, etc.
