FFS - of course it is. They've just done a bit of irrelevant
titivation (as far as the rough running is concerned).

I'm going to refrain from the "told you so" part because, as a poor
amateur at car repairs, I find it utterly infuriating when even an
ignoramus such as myself can spot something professionals don't appear
to. Sorry about the rant..but I can't help think about wallet rapers.
At the end of a long saga of costly replacements, you'll have a brand
new car that still runs rough and an empty wallet. Been there seen it,
got the tee shirt (more than once)!!!!

Alfa if replacing the cam cover gasket doesn't do it?"

I hope they've done basics like compression tested the engine. Why is
one spark plug oiled? Test one - compression!

PS Am I being totally naive in thinking that an Alfa main dealer ought to be
able to diagnose the problem / ought to be able to fix the problem / ought
to want to send the customer away happy ??
In this case, maybe you are, but many Alfa dealerships have a hard
earned reputation to live down to..apparently.

I take it that a change of dealership isn't an option then.. Are
Wilsons Epsom any good?

Even so, I'd be tempted to pass on you're experiences to Alfa UK
asking for their assistance in helping you stick with Alfa as a
marque.

I feel your pain. My experience would suggest rescuing your car now
and taking it somewhere that's interested and competent, but it's not
always been that simple in my experience either! :-(

My wife has a Renault Clio that we bought from Wilsons.

A couple of years ago, I was in Wilsons with the Clio and noticed a "service
menu" for Alfa's on the wall - if you want a cambelt change done on a 2
litre twin-spark 156, Wilsons will charge you £900 !!! (Not a mis-print,
£900, and this was a couple of years ago).

The short answer to your question is - No, Wilsons are a multi- make dealer,
incredibly expensive, and probably no better than Fred round the corner when
it comes to fixing a "sick" car.

Well, in a case like this, Halmyre would have replied 'No my name's
Wenlesydale' or something similar. I could have then threatened to
shoot him, or maybe made some comment about the Bazouki players.

Making sense?
