It seems modern automotive engines last much longer than they did in the past. I suppose this is due to better engineering, manufacturing and metalurgical processes. Just how long can one reasonably expect a modern engine to last, assuming it is well maintained? Thanks in advance... |

Thanks in advance... Your correct in assuming that the engines of today are designed better, materials are better and as well lubricants are better. So they do last longer. I would suggest that an average life of a late model motor would be in the 150,000 to 200,000 miles range. Could be more or less, it depends on the motor, how it's treated and how maintained. As a rule of thumb I would say motors last about 50% longer than they did in the 60's and 70's. I think that the life of a motor actually went down in the 80's, a lot of trial and error in those years. Brian |
