Default This engine was originally mounted in which Chevy? - 01-22-2007 , 11:04 AM

Hi,

Thanks a lot if someone can provide some help in identifying which Chevy
model this V8 Chevy engine originally mopunted in.

Motor number : 0012524T56FA

Roughly it tells me that it has serial no 0012524 and it was built at
the Tonawanda Plant in 1956.....

Can somebody better identify this engine and tell us which car it was
originally made for?

Thanks a lot for help on this issue

regards Geir

I'll have access to the block casting number tonight. Will post back later.

According to the url you posted in the other reply, does this mean that
I can newer know for sure which Chevy chassis / car model this engine
originally was mounted in?

regards

geir

Being a 56 it cannot be in that many vehicles anyway. Does it have
provisions for an oil filter? The early 1956 265 blocks didn't until
very late production. As for being sure EXACTLY which vehicle it came
it. That will be kind of difficult.

I don't know of any way to tell exactly which or chassis/model it came from.
If it has a casting number that's unique to one product line , maybe. But
odds are no.

Hi again,

We tried to search all over the motor but did not find any casting
number. Where is the casting number supposed to be located?

I saw the location of the Casting Date from the url you provided, but I
would be grateful to know more in detail where I can expect to find the
Csting Number on the engine mentioned in the original post

Thanks anyway

regards

Geir

Casting number should be cast into the block at the rear bellhousing
flange. Probably 3720991 if its a 56 block with a 265 bore
3731548 if you have a late 56 early 57 283

If the motor is in a vehicle and you are having trouble reading it
from the bell housing flange, press a piece of clay across the
numbers. Then when you remove the clay you can read the numbers in a
mirror...
