I remember a survey a few years ago which disclosed that 70% of BMW owners never bothered to test their cars prior to purchase. And those which were given the opportunity to test other marques then thought the BMW the inferior choice. Ah, the power of marketing. ![]() |

and I have also converted my wife to Audis.^ How many did you get for her? Haha - only one (so far!). But I'm still amazed that she 'allowed' me to change my A6 2.7 for the RS6. ![]() Was that the 2.7T? |
What was that like for reliability? |
I've heard loads of horror stories about that 2.7T engine (though it must be pretty rapid when it's working properly). |
And have your cars been Estates or saloons? |
I'm seriously thinking about getting an early shape A6 Avant with the 5-pot 2.5TDI bhp engine (and 6-speed box), |
and then at some point upgrade to an RS6 (if + when I become seriously loaded!). |

"wayne" <smartbucks (AT) start (DOT) com> skrev i melding news:3f0d152a$1_1 (AT) news (DOT) iprimus.com.au... Hi guys If BMW is a sporty luxury German brand and Mercedes is a luxury but more conservative older businessmans car, then you have Volvo,(boring but less so now) Saab (individual, almost eccentric but less so now post GM) and Alfa (sporty, fun and daring), where does Audi fit in exactly? What im trying to find out is what is the image of Audis' cars and what type of poeple buy them? Her in my country, at least, BMWs are gangmobiles, while MBs are taxis, and Lexus almost non-existant. So................. Audi is the obvious alternative. I suppose that you do not want the cops to stop you and check you constantly, or that people all the time shout "Taxi!" after you. So, there you are.................. |

Good at Q cars - see RS 6, S4 Avant etc - which really shift. |

And have your cars been Estates or saloons? I haven't had a 3-box saloon since 1980 - all my cars since then have had a rear hatch. I'm seriously thinking about getting an early shape A6 Avant with the 5-pot 2.5TDI bhp engine (and 6-speed box), If you have the choice, go for the 140bhp, rather than 115. Certainly a comfortable and rapid car, with good longevity. |
and then at some point upgrade to an RS6 (if + when I become seriously loaded!). It is fun - many other drivers seem surprised (and some quite annoyed) to find that a large estate car can outrun them so easily! |

Where does that term come from - "Q-car" or "Q-ship"? Anyone know? A WW-II construct, "Q-ships" appeared to be common merchant freighters when in fact they were heavily armed gun platforms. They were often used to try to draw u-boats to the surface to fire on them with guns (and thus spare their torpedoes) whereupon the Q-ship would suddenly spring to action and blow the u-boat out of the water... By any other words, they were "wolves in sheep's clothing". The analogy to cars is then fairly clear... /daytripper |
