Default LWFF Lost F after registry hack - 05-07-2007 , 04:04 AM

Ok -let me start by saying that this problem is entirely down to my own
supreme idiocy...

As the owner of a LWFF and Test Drive Unlimited, I deleted some keys in
my registry to enable the wheel to be used with the game. I was
completely aware that completing the hack (as detailed in the link
below) would remove ff from ALL games, but went ahead anyway.

Having deleted the relevant values, I did make sure that I had saved a
backup of the registry key to import later.

As a result of the idiocy mentioned above, I then tidied my desktop by
moving said backup into the recycle bin...then emptied the bin a few
days later.

First thoughts were "Oh Bugger", which gave way to the hope that if I
unplugged the wheel, removed the drivers and profiler, and reinstalled
everything that all would once again be well.

It isn't...

After the reinstall I've got the profiler back and the wheel is listed
in 'Game Controllers' and has the usual options to toggle ff, split
axis, centring spring etc. However, when testing the buttons in this
screen, there is no ff as there used to be. (Those of you with Logitech
stuff will know what I'm talking about - the 'blown tire' and 'ufo'
effects.) There are also no ff effects in previous games: GPL, rFactor etc.

I'd really appreciate any suggestions on how to solve this.

Thanks in advance,
Rick.

Great - a typo in the title. Should be 'lost FF'. Sorry!

You don't say what O/S you're using, but couldn't you just roll back the
computer to before you started messing with things, which should restore
the registry to its previous state.

Doh! Of course -I just couldn't see the wood for trees. After a few
attempts to get back far enough to regain ff and then get everything
else up to speed, I am now sorted.

Thanks Peter,

Regards,
Rick.
