Hmm, after ignoring the first 7 links as instructed, there are no more links
for d/l this mod.

Early Christmas present for many I'm guessing.

It looks like the demo links have been removed, but the text was not
adjusted... all links are now for the 1.0 version of the mod.

Yeah, this is really disturbing. Mostly every time a good mod is released,
the insignificant, who apparently want to be personally rewarded, pile on a
bunch of small variations, causing to rest a host of mismatches.

Fear not, Alan. The mods for the mod refer to the demo.

Cheers

"PLEASE READ THE DOCUMENTATION BELOW BEFORE ASKING QUESTIONS!

Ignore the first 7 links below as they´re related to the demo. There
are two installers for the full version, GP79_v10.exe and
GP79_tp_v10.exe. One is the main pack and the other is the trackpack. "

The first 4 sentences on the page. Tough to follow...good thing they
updated the links......

Not totally, I don't think. There already is a fix for the mirrors. Soon
there will be other updates and modifications, made by random people, who
might change some small thing to feed the egos. All this causes multiplayer
to be a hit and miss affair.

Oh-- it's the man who likes to roll his eyes. I'll guarantee it, that
within two weeks there will be so many updates and patches and tweaks to the
'79 mod that it will be nearly impossible to play online using this mod. At
least with LFS you can get online and race on the first try; with rFactor,
it might take someone ten tries before finding anything, including the
scattered fixes and patches and tweaks.

First off, Merry Xmas! :-)

If I am reading you right, you seem to be indicating that MORE content
is bad. Now, I completely understand the issue you speak of
(incompatibilty) but any author of any mod should try and fix all the
bugs and ommissions. rF allows the community to create and modify any
series out there, while LFS strictly controls what we get to drive. To
me, rF is the far better choice in this regard.

As for online, I have yet to participate in any pickup race worth the
time it took to find it. 90 minute practice sessions...1st turn
heroes....server bosses who boot drivers for the thrill of it. Why
bother, I ask? When the original PCC mod came out (hmmmm....seem to
recall an outcry to fix THAT mod asap) I tried for 2 solid weeks to
play online in pickup races. Frustrating was an understatement.

That leaves league play, even informal leagues where each race is its
own "championship" and mandatory attendance isn't required. Such
leagues typically have all the info regarding what mod, version,
carset, etc. is in use thereby eliminating the confusion you speak of.

After spending a decent amount of time with the 79 mod, I think it's
pretty good. My single point of criticism is that ISI really needs to
implement sliding skirts if ground effect is going to work
realistically in rfactor. In reality, ground effect cars were
constantly scraping the ground because of the sliding skirts, to the
point of gouging grooves in the track surfaces, and that's not really
the way to go in this mod. Instead of running the stiffest suspension
possible and running the car a few millimeters off the track the ideal
setup appears to be the standard soft-ass springs/ride height that
doesn't scrape much, which is a shame.

That said, the mod team did a great job within the limitations of what
they're working with. Certainly a lot of fun if not a realistic
depiction of ground effect cars.
