Erm, you can't get rid of IE - there was a small court case in the
States on that subject I guess you missed.

Actually you can, unless you're concerned with the legal aspects of it,
Win98Lite runs just fine without IE installed :-)

is that with XP only? I remember some utilities for older
windows versions which remove IE from the system (or so the
authors claim).

That would surely be yet another reason *not* to "upgrade" to
XP IMHO if IE removal is not possible anymore.

All the best,

uwe

What is the big deal about having to remove it? Nobody is forcing you
to use it for browsing.

Andrew.

Just picked up F1C, trying to install it but I required a later version

That's not on the minimum spec.

Anyone know how to install this without installing more IE stuff? Reg
hack.. setup switch etc.
What's the minimum IE version required? - if I have to do this..:-(

It needs at least ver. 5.5. WTF does it need IE for ANYWAY?!? Stupid damn
game program...

I like total control about what components get installed on my
system, and 12 years in professional system administration have
led me to think that less is better (yes, even on Unix / Linux
;-)

If I don't need it, I should be able to remove it, period.

Cheers,

Uwe

I don't use it much, just for the sites that don't work in Mozilla.

Andrew.

I too use Mozilla, but have ie6 onboard because of some sites that won't
work. One, in paticular, was Tantra's tracks which was a very good site
for F1 2k2 tracks. But since he has stopped hosting, then that is just one
more site I don't need IE6 for.

Why? Easy, so they can add shortcuts to thier website to your favorites
list. I am not sure buy during the install you should be able to tell it
not to add the shortcuts.
That may or may not allow you to install without IE 6. IE is integrated
into windows 98 and up, if you are using any windows OS 98 or newer you
"must" have IE installed, and six is worth having. If you are not using
windows as your OS, then IE will not be intrusive and you can have it on
your system the same as any other program and just not use it, make sure
your browser of choice is set as the default and bury IE in some deep dark
folder for use only as an installer enhancement. :-)

You should give GreenBrowser a try. http://www.morequick.com/. I use
to be a huge Opera fan, but have been using this instead lately.
Basically it has everything Opera has (popup blocker, tabs, url alias,
mouse gestures etc).

And it's really small, 400k zipped. You don't need to install, just
unzip and run. It basically uses the IE engine. So you have all the
function of Opera/Mozilla but the compatibility of IE. Oh did I
meantion it's free too
