Whilst Pat has been trying freetrack I have been playing with Softth - a
software method of running multiple monitors.

I had previously used a Matrox TH2Go but found the low resolution on my
large (24") middle monitor too low and I had unnecessarily high
resolutions on the smaller outer screens (19" CRT).

Soffth allows you to run different resolutions on the centre and outer
screens which answers my particular issue.

The caveat is that for three monitors you need two PCI-X graphics cards
and although the second card can be very low power (all the rendering is
done on the primary card) you still need a motherboard with two PCI-X slots.

Having said that you can run it in two monitor form where you have a
centre and right screen - meaning you can sit on the left of the car
with your normal view ahead and see the right hand side, door mirror etc.

If you have a spare monitor around and a dual head graphics card you can
have two monitors split correctly (i.e. without the bezel down the
middle of your steering wheel!)

Of course three is better, but you may need some extra hardware to do
that (e.g. an SLI board running in non SLI mode).

Like the TH2Go you also need a powerful graphics card to run these high
resolutions.

One thing that doesn't seem to work well is anti aliasing - causing
corruption in GTR2 and Race07 and simply not working in NR2003. Although
compared the the TH2go the higher resolution of the centre screen is far
better even without AA (plus it helps the fps).

Well worth trying though it needs some fiddling (editing of config
files) but it didn't take too long to get working.
