Default video card question - 10-29-2003 , 12:04 PM

I'm looking for a new video card, but I'm not really looking to spend
$500. I saw the ATI radeon 9200 128 MB for under $100.

Is this a good deal or a waste of $85?

the one I have now is an ATI All-In-Wonder 16MB. this should at least
be a step in the right direction.

It would be a significant jump to move up to an ATI Radeon 9600 for $113
available on www.newegg.com.

This will give you much faster speed and dx9 compatibility.

but... if you're running a 16mb card I have to question your processor
speed.. Anything less than 1.4ghz and your best bet is a 64meg geforce2 card
or the like. Atleast IMO.

I have a P3, 733mhz. About a year ago i moved from a GeForce2 64mb
mx400 to a GeForce 4 TI4200 with 128mb ($100.00 NewEgg). Anyway, that
gave me a big jump in performance. So I disagree that he should stay
at the GeForce2 level if he has anything less that 1ghz+ machine.

But certainly, his processor/mobo should be a consideration, as is
the games he wants to play. A ATI 9600 may be a bit more than he
needs to play "Minesweeper." ;-)

just my .02,
jeff
