Default 1998 328IS - 07-08-2004 , 11:51 AM

I'm looking at buying a 98 328IS. Its got 80,000 miles on it. Does anyone
know of any issues, or major maintenance that might be due (or if this
year/model is a stinker)??

Thanks

IIRC, that's the last year of the E36. Fab car. My brother loves his
'94 325is; you should really like that one. Might not be too early
to have the suspension checked over completely.

I use to have a 98 328is with the performance package. I had it on a
three year lease. It was a great car.!!! I only brought it in for
the oil changes. Evertime I had nothing else to do to the car. I now
have a 2004 325is and I think my old 328 was better.

I had a 96 328IS. Great car to drive, but demands maintenance at 60+K.

Weak cooling system: If the thermostat, water pump, and radiator have
not yet been replaced, they will need to be shortly.

The seat frames can give out, too. I weigh about 210, and wore out the
driver's seat at about 60K. Replacements are not stocked, and you
wouldn't want to buy them if they were, because the dealers charged a
couple of thousand per seat when they were available. But if the frame
feels solid under you, and is supportive under cornering load, don't
worry about it.

I have 1998 323is and it's been very good to me. Were I buying a 328,
that's the year I'd go for. A few early bugs are not present in the
late models.
