Default '83 533i temperature guage - 04-05-2006 , 03:14 PM

Hi all. Just bought this thing used. It's in really great shape but has
some minor problems. My main concern it that the temperature gauge is flat
0 and won't budge. According to the manual, to test the sensor, all I have
to do is short the sensor wire to ground and the guage should go way up. I
did that and got no deflection in the guage. I also did a resistance check
on the sensor and it changed between the engine being cold and warm. So I'm
pretty sure the sensor is fine.

I tried to follow the wire to see where it went and it LOOKS like it goes to
the computer instead of straight to the dash panel. Darn computers have to
stick their nose in everything... So I'm not sure where to go from here. I
was hoping to get an external gauge until I can get around to having some
one fix it properly, but I can only find mechanical guages and have to order
one. Not sure which one to order...

Suggestions?
