Default E39 525 TDS - Passenger Door Locked !!! Help - 05-17-2006 , 12:11 PM

Hello All,

I have had my 525tds for a few months now and the strangest thing has
happened. The front passenger door has locked from both the inside and
the outside and will not open. The alarm still open the lock "pip" -
but the door will not open at all.

What makes it worse is that I cannot get inside properly to remove the
lock, although I have removed the door trim as best I can to see what
is going on - it all looks as though it is still OK.

It is due the MoT soon and for sure this will fail, but I am struggling
to thing how I will get round it - other that taking a Stihl saw to the
outer skin - EEEKK!!!!

Has anyone else had this problem ?

Cheers
Julian

yes i have had the same problem. but if you get the interior door panel off
which you can just about do without wreaking the panel then all is not lost.
i found that the cable that opens the door ,that is attached to the outside
door handle did not let the locking mechanism release far enough ,so
disconnect the cable then push the arm that the cable from the outside door
was attached to down further, then try to open from the inside .i believe it
is al to do with the double locking feature .and have found on mine that
where the cable at the door end fixes a part had broken and i am still
awaiting the replacement
i hope this makes sense

Great Stuff Hammy1967
Managed to fix it based on your advice, sure enough it was the external
lock opening arm that had seized and would not turn - Although I am
going to get a replacement, I managed to repair the one already on by
removing the lock, grinding off the rivetted head for the arm and
polishing the shaft off that arm - It would probably be fine like that,
but better to be safe than sorry and not have it fail sometime in the
future when I need it!

Thanks again for the advice
