Could be a bad wheel bearing or it might just be something inside the
parking brake drum.
You can find out by removing the brake drum and rotating the axle.

-----

1. Get the rear of the car off the ground with dual jack stands - SAFELY-
and block fronts from rolling.
2. Put the trans in NEUTRAL and release the emergency brake.
3. Turn a rear wheel and listen for the sound.
4. Grab a wheel and alternate spinning it forward and reverse to simulate
the motion of the car moving.
5. Listen to drive shaft, center bearing, and differential.
6. Get back to us about the sound and it's point of origin.

Wheel bearing is a possible, but you are most likely hearing the
differential (change fluid, use correct type for limited slip or normal).
Does the sound only happen in turns (bearing) or speed-related, or a "thunk"
when first starting from a stop? Let us know and we can diagnose better.

Have you fitted new rear discs lately?

If so the later ones do not have the groove for the lip of the splash plate and
it will rub on the disc until it wears away or you could remove the disc and
grind away the offending lip or even discard the splash guard altogether.
