Default duped by Bristol garage - 03-03-2007 , 02:54 PM

I got my alternator changed from this garage. Fussy mechanic, kept
complaining to me about the difficulty he faced changing the
alternator!!. He was rude and imprecise while giving me the quote. The
breakdown guy had checked the alternator, it was making noise and was
almost seized but not broken. The garage showed it to me in broken
(cracked) condition when I went to collect car after repairs. Charged
me a surcharge of £60.

Also charged £ 72 for labor. Charged £102 for recon alternator instead
of £70 quoted initially. Total rip-off. Stay away. Con Garage!!!

Well how about NAMING THEM -

Labour cost isn't excessive and you should have asked for the old unit back if
they were charging for it. Usually LUCAS, BOSCH etc offer 12 months full
warranty anywhere in the world if supplied by their own network and labour cost
are included in any warranty claims.

Obviously this was NOT an authorised BOSCH, NIPPONDENSO, LUCAS, TRW replacement
but a Joe Bloggs shady back street outfit. Or was it? trading standards would
like to hear from you and it costs NOTHING to tell them. Keep all receipts ad
WRITE down the detain slowly NOW and calmly in order of occurrence. Tell you
motoring organisation of your experience and the garage they towed your car to.

All helps and a claim in the "small claims court" might help - Get even don't
get Mad

I agree with Hugh. I live in Bristol and I would like to know where I
should and shouldn't go.

I agree with Hugh. I live in Bristol and I would like to know where I
should and shouldn't go.

Clayton Cars- do an OK job but are far to expensive for an independant.
I have had damage done to a car at Clayton's which they tried to deny;
not altogether happy with the outcome.

Bavarian Motors- reliable and reasonable. I've used them a couple of
times and they've got me out of a hole once when I needed a radiator
replaced at short notice (called on Friday AM, got the car to them at
4PM on Friday, they worked on Saturday to get it done.) Only criticism
of Bavarian Motors is the location; I don't like driving into (or out
of) their garage- the road is far to narrow as is the entrance...
If we are naming good BMW specialists then anybody near Portsmouth (Havant
actually) you can't get better service than

E-Tech Motorsport Ltd
Unit 4
The Tanneries
Brockhampton Lane
Havant
Hants'
PO9 1J

023 9247 8300

I also have 2 x mobile phone numbers which I won't put here but they came out at
10:30PM to put my car in the workshops when a tow truck took it there 4 days
before Christmas 2 years ago with a dead fuel pump - fixed next day and drove to
Germany Xmas Eve! Great service.............

I like Clayton Cars, much cheaper than Dick Lovett, but I never knew
about Bavarian Motors and they are right by my house! Thanks for the
lead, will check them out...

If it's true then no problem - only when it's a lie.
