Default e39 general module - 12-13-2008 , 01:52 AM

I have been reading the bentley manual about the problems I am having
with my 1998 e39 sedan. And so far every issue I am having with my e39
seems to go back to the general module. I will list the issues I can
remember:

1. no speed reading on my cluster.
2. no fuel consumption reading
3. trunk don't pop or soft close.
4. wiper stops in the middle of the windshield. [changed relay already
with no effect]
5. windshield wipers and window taking a few minutes after start car
before they functions.
6. fuel level works when it wants to.

I have a new cluster to install but would like to change the General
Module. My questions is.....................' do I need to have this
General Module programed by bmw before installing it or is it a direct
install "if" I replace it with the exact part number? I know I have
to take the cluster to bmw to be coded to my car.

Can't answer your question, but did all these problems appear at once? Or
did you buy the car with them existing?

On my '97 528, pretty well all the stuff in the instrument nacelle
stopped working - only things which did work were the ignition warning,
seatbelt and ABS lights - on start up self test. Even the turn signal tell
tales gave up. This lasted a day of use - but worked ok again the next
one, and have been fine since.

I'd guess there are several faults, then.
