Default Rain Sensor Help needed please. - 01-04-2005 , 11:53 AM

I have a 1999 328ci with rain sensor fitted.

I only bought the vehicle a few weeks ago, but the rain sensor seemed to
work fine.

I now notice that whenever I put the wipers into intermittent/rain sensor
position (position 1), they just work like normal intermittent wipers.

I.e. they just wipe like a normal intermittent, either a second apart or
more depending on the position of the turn wheel.

Can anyone help please, and tell me if I have somehow switched the sensor
off (if that is possible)

Thank You for any info.

Rain Sensor wipers don't have an "intermittent mode", it's either:-

off, rain sensor, wipe, wipe fast

Check your rear view mirror mounting bracket to make sure you do have the
sensor.

Yes I do have one.

As I said it in the previous message - it was working.

But now its acting like its not got one, and its a normal intermittent type.

I have a 2002 540i w/ rain sensor and I have intermittent. Move the arm to
the first position where you would adjust the speed and set it at it's
slowest. That is "rain sensor." Move the wheel up one notch and you are now
on intermittent-slow. Moving the integrated wheel takes it out of sensor and
into intermittent. Moving the entire arm up one notch puts you in slow
speed; up two notches is fast speed.

According to my two 5-series owners manuals (2001 and 2003) the wheel merely
adjusts the sensitivity of the rain sensor. That also reflects my
experience with the system. So, unless BMW did something unique for 2002,
you're mistaken.

I believe the position of the wheel is not relevant on the 3 series.

Does anyone else have any ideas please?

The wheel adjusts the sensitivity on my E46.

Actually, since I don't care for the "rain sensor", I'd love to know how to
change it to an intermittent system as you seem to have done!

Sorry I can't be of help.

Tom

My 2002 530 works per the instruction manual, first position is rain sensor,
wheel adjusts sensitivity.

My 330ci is as previous posters have said, the wheel adjusts sensitivity and
nothing else!

I set my sensor according to the manual but it doesn't kick in everytime it
rains. I have to move the stick from position 1 to off and then back up.
Is this normal? I mean, kind of defeats the purcpose of having a sensor if
you have to set it each time it rains.
