Thank you for the replies. It is scheduled for production at 7/11.

However, I have some concerns with the way the dealer handled this and I'm
not sure if they are really "on-the-ball." The problem is that I know there
was no order in that they could customize, so this was a new request.
However, the dealer faxed me the order 2 weeks after I gave them a deposit.
So now I'm curious if they just sat on the order for a while. I think I'll
call that 800 number and ask them when the order was placed to find out.

My next question, is how long does the Z4 take to go from production date to
when I drive it. The dealer promised me last week that we experienced the
last of delays and I would have it by the second week of July. I'm assuming
three days is a VERY optimistic goal. Am I right?

I "ordered" a Z4 on 4/29/03. This was a car that was already scheduled
for production, a car that the dealer had already ordered for his stock.
He simply revised the colors/options to my liking. The car was not yet in
production, so they could change it to whatever.

Anyway, I was driving it on 5/27/03 (less than a month later). The
dealership was up front and honest. They provided me with anticipated
dates etc which were accurate. They also have a special bmw site that
will tell you up to date production info and status of delivery, etc. You
just need to get the production number of the car from the dealer.

Enjoy your new Z4.

I ordered a Z4 on 5/9 at a Boston area dealership. As of today, it seems
the
car still won't be made until 7/11. I have a few questions. Is this an
unusual amount of time? When should the car go from "ordered" to
"scheduled
for production" on the Owners Circle website? How long is it usually
take
from manufacturer to ready to drive away?

Thanks.

I went through the list with the dealer of the entire New England area's
inventory. There is nothing matching what I want (and I'm flexible with 3
different colors, with/without sports package, and standard/SMG).

I ordered an early 3.0 6 speed in October, 2002 - with deposit. The order
wasn't accepted by BMW until December, and I received my car at the end of
January - probably the reason we had so much snow in my area! IIRC, it was
about 5-6 weeks from "ordered" to "scheduled", so the two months doesn't
seem unreasonable to get the car you want.

The upside is that it is definitely worth the wait!

Robert, There are several hundred at dealers all over the southwest.
They must have sent them all out here first. The Z4 is sweet... If you
don't want to wait try a
dealer or two in the South.

I was in Atlanta last weekend and saw a dozen Z4's at the dealership
there when I was checking on the new spoiler they came out with for the
Z4.

This is the sweetest car that I've owned since 1994 when I got rid of my
84 944.
