Default TA Alignment Woes - 02-17-2007 , 03:34 AM

Ok, so I posted a few weeks ago about how my steering would pull left
slightly, and I finally got around to getting a whole new set of BF
Goodrich tires (255/50/16) and I took it to the local AutoTire to get
the front end aligned. I knew that when a mechanic peeled out of the
parking lot in my car about 40 minutes after I dropped it off that was
not a good sign. So, I get the keys, pay, and drive off, trying to
forget the ignorant mechanic taking my precious machine for a joyride
and how the "shop manager" told me that I should get a whole new rack
and pinion from him for approx $900. The steering was a lot tighter,
there was still a slight amount of play which I attribute to the rack,
but the thing that gets me is that it STILL pulls to the left! I
thought an alignment job fixed that, not just correct toe in and
caster/camber adjustments. The more I drove it today, it seems like
the harder it pulled to the left. Should I go back and raise hell, or
should I really go balls out and call the higher ups or BBB on these
assholes for bad work and abusing MY vehicle by burning out into
oncoming traffic? I'm so friggin pissed right now, and I just want to
make sure that I'm not crazy and I didn't get screwed, and that an
"alignment" means making sure the wheels are aligned straight with a
slight toe in, so that the car has no steering bias on a non sloped
road.

Did they give you a print out? Most alignment shops these days "set the
toe and let it go". Very few will take the time to do it right.

Have you also checked for the any type of drag on that side.
1. Brakes dragging more on that side than the other.
2. Is the air pressure the same in both tires.
3. Is the wheel bearing worn to the point where it is cocking the wheel
so it is dragging the brake pad.

Could it also be the crown of the road?

Justa though.......HTH.........Stan

Just remember.. these cars track horriably... any little rut the wheels
will follow....
