Safety and economy of operation have been increased in the 1950 De Soto
cars announced yesterday by the De Soto division, Chrysler Corporation.
The eleven models in the line will be displayed here and in dealer
showrooms through the country on Tuesday.
The station wagon has been transferred from the deluxe to custom
series, and thus includes several equipment items that were extra
charges in the vehicle in 1949.
The New York City delivered prices, exclusive of sales tax, were
unofficially reported as unchanged from 1949 schedules, with the
exception of the station. They are:
DELUXE
Four-door sedan - $2,260
Club coupe - $2,250
Eight-passenger sedan - price not available
Carry-All sedan - $2,465
CUSTOM
Four-door sedan - $2,325
Club coupe - $2,310
Eight-passenger sedan $3,015
Convertible coupe $2,730
Nine-passenger suburban - $3,470
Station wagon - $3,367
Sportsman hardtop convertible - price not available
Custom prices include fluid drive Tip-Toe shift transmission,
directional signals, back-up light, air foam seat cushions in rear
compartment, rear fender scuff shields and plastic steering wheel.
C. E. Bleicher, De Soto president, said, "The new De Sotos, at no added
cost, represent the greatest value in the history of this division."
Tip=Toe hydraulic shift and fluid drive transmission is standard
equipment on all custom cars and about $120 extra as an option in the
Deluxe series. A new model, the Sportsman hard-top convertible type, is
scheduled for production soon.
Company officials emphasized that the rear windows were 33 percent
larger than those on the 1949 vehicles. All cars are powered by a six-
cylinder, 112-horsepower engine with compression ratio of 7 to 1.
Throughout the entire line the wheelbase is 125 inches and overall
length 207.
