I have a 1998 Pontiac Grand Am 2.4 with only 140,000 miles on it. Yesterday taking off from a light the car would not do anything.. The engine just revved and nothing engaged.. I even tried reverse, 1, 2 and 3. Just before this. The car was a;sp having trouble yesterday on the interstate going into overdrive.. Going 65 the car would be running 5000 rpm.. I let off the gas and then it decided to shift.. I checked the fluid and it was burnt pretty bad.. I have had the Tranny on a T-Tech fluid exchange at 50k miles.. I had the filter replaced at 100k... Well for the hell of it, I got a filter kit, dropped the pan, cleaned it up.. Popped in a new filter and retopped the fluid. The car appears to be going into gear and driving now.. I figured the tranny was toast so it wouldn't hurt to try some cheap remedys like a new filter.. Would you trust this, or will it probably only work for a week. I would hate to dump a Tranny into a car Blue Booked at $1500. I would also hate to dump a car that still looks great and ran like a champ untill this week. I am torn.. I know I Know.. It is only a POS Grand Am, but I would hate to waste it. |
