Default 2 Windstar Problems - 10-18-2006 , 09:49 AM

1. Loud whining sound coming from one of the wheel areas once car has been
driven for a while. Sound goes away when brake is applied. When stopped I
can feel a large amount of heat coming from wheel area and a slight smell.

2. Loud hydraulic sound when turning car to the left. Doesn't happen when
turning to the right.

Does anyone have a suspicion as to what the issues might be here? Thanks in
advance for your help!

For 1: Could be the "I'm worn out" indicator on a brake pad. This is a
device that, when the pad is worn down far enough just touches the
rotor. Or it could be something much more serious...like a pad(s)
completely worn out leaving metal-to-metal contact. Very bad news...get
it fixed immediately.

For 2: Could be as simple as a serpentine drive belt in need of
replacement. Or could be a defective rack and pinion. If the later:
Very expensive and VERY dangerous to keep driving. Finally, could be a
plastic fender liner has come loose (left front wheel...behind the
wheel, or right front wheel, in front of the wheel.
