i've researched this a little online but a lot of the posts and stuff i've found are from a while back, not to mention they leave out a lot of details. my question. is it possible to obtain an oregon p.o. box, buy a car in oregon, register it to oregon, obtain oregon license plates, then bring the car to california and drive it here legally? iow, what is the worst case scenario? if a cop stops me and notices i have a ca dl and oregon plates, what illegal act does that prove (since i technically have an address in oregon)? tia. |

DO NOT DO THIS. You will end up with a car that you cannot drive in California. California laws do not allow California residents to buy new or used cars with under 7500 miles from out of state. If you have the car in California for any period of time, at some point some sharp CHP or local police will notice it and you will be SOL. There may be some exceptions, but military personnel are the only ones that come to mind. Unless you buy a car in cash, if you finance it the lender is not going to accept a PO box as an address, not to mention any insurance company. |

Move to Oregon......... That works better than the PO box. The PO box is too small to use as a garage. |
