DECEMBER AUTO SALES
Ford sales fall 32%; VW, Daimler also drop

Ford Motor Co. posted a 32 percent decline in December sales as the U..S.
auto industry capped its worst year since the early 1990s. Ford's drop
was its 23rd in the past 24 months. The Volkswagen brand was down 14.4
percent, and Daimler AG plunged 23.5 percent. Subaru of America, the
only other automaker to report by midday, slipped 7.7 percent. Ford's
results bolster analysts' forecasts for an industrywide fall of more
than one-third. That would be the fourth straight monthly tumble of more
than 25 percent, amid the longest U.S. recession since the early 1980s
and a national debate over whether the federal government should rescue
Chrysler LLC and General Motors. *"No one wants to buy anything," Jesse
Toprak, Edmunds.com's executive director of industry analysis, said in

I love how all the news articles all start with "Ford down 32% in
December", then also mention as a side note that Honda is down 35% and
Toyota is down 37%......Shouldn't it be the opposite? *Nobody is
surprised about Ford, but Toyota and Honda being down more than Ford is
not "Top Line" worthy?

No it is not. Toyota losing money is not news worthy. Toyota having more
people being paid for doing nothing than GM and Ford combined is not news
worthy. Toyota getting loans from the Japanese government is not news
worthy. Toyota blowing BILLIONS on a third rate pig of a truck is no
newsworthy. Toyota's CEO getting canned for making stupid decision is not
newsworthy. Toyota benefiting from Japanese government *technology
development programs is not news worthy. Toyota is perfect. Repeat after
me - Toyota is perfect. Negative comments about Toyota will be punished..
American manufacturers are crap. Toyota is perfect.....

However, the Michigan 3 lost more sales (20-30%) than the foreign
nameplates (about 14% combined). And, for the first time ever, more
foreign nameplate vehicles were sold in the US than Michigan 3
vehicles, excluding large trucks.

Naturally we can't count TRUCKS, they are only around 50% of domestic sales.
