Default eliminating cigarette odors - 06-29-2005 , 10:32 AM

Is there a way to eliminate cigatette odors from the heating/cooling system
of a car without taking out the duct work and washing it?

Thanks

Paul R.

Best way: Don't smoke in the car.

Second best way: Only smoke in the car with the window closest the
smoker open. Keep the cigaratte near the window. Empy and clean the
ashtray after every use.

My suggestion is to just not smoke in the car. Better for you, better
for your passengers, better for your car.

spray ozium into the vents and the carpet and seats about the third time
it will clear the odor.

Being an ex-smoker, I noticed a few things about clearning out the
smoke smell from my car, and here's what worked for me. First of
course stop smoking, but for the lingering smells, that you think are
comeing from the vents could be coming from the carpets. Usually you
don't smell the carpets, but with the vents on and moving around air,
it stirrs up movement, so:

1. Clean your carpets. This can involve just a good vacuum and
laying them out in the sun for a day or two.

2. Clean out your car. Find the most minnute ash, or tobacco and
make it go away.

3. Crack all your windows, and leave the car in the sun. It worked
for me. I could smell cigerette smoke when I got back into my car, so
it gave me the impression it was being liberated from the materials.

4. Runn your fan on 'fresh air' and run it all the time, this should
blow out old smoke smell.

Now, i've used air freshners, but that only covered up the smell, not
eleminated it.

Good Luck,

Thanks everybody for the feedback. Actually I'm a non smoker but purchased a
used vehicle with a strong cigarette smell when I run the air conditionner
or heater. I'll try your suggestions.

We use the Vamoose 1808T Tobacco Smoke eliminator. We spray all the fabric
in the vehicle and then turn the air conditioner (a/c) on in the recycle
mode and spray it in the air intakes, usually under the passenger's side
of the front dash. If the vehicle has two a/c units, front and back, then
there may be an intake located in the back or rear (SUV or Van). We've
tried lots of different products but none of them compare to this one. I
just searched cigarette odors on ebay and found the product. You can
probably just look up Vamoose 1808T. Good luck.
