Default GM 3.8L V6 new water pump keeps leaking, why ? - 07-03-2003 , 08:17 PM

Hello,
I am having this strange problem. I have an Olds Cutlass Ciera with
3.8 L V6. A few months ago I replaces the timing chain, and figure its
better to replace the water pump since it cost nothing for labor.
Water pump was brought from Autozone, band new, not rebuilt. 1.5
months later the pump leaks from its seeps hole, so I got a new one
(still under warranty). Autozone said this is a defect of the pump.
Now, 1.5 months later, the new pump leaks again from its seeps hole. I
wonder if something is not right in my car, or I am just a very
unlucky guy. Any idea ?

Both water pumps were installed by two different mechanics, both I
have done business with for several years, and both were competent (I
think). This car has never give me a headache, until now.....

Thanks
Chris

Poor quality Autozone parts. Probably a made in China waterpump.
BTW I have not seen a single Ciera made with the3.8L, who did the engine
swap. They came with either the 4cyl or 3.1 after 94. Before that they had
the 3.3L.

What David said.. I am less than thrilled about AZ parts. Guarantee?
Big deal. You still have to do the work. Try here for real OEM
replacement parts.. http://www.gmotors.com/
