Default Missing Lincoln 4.6 V-8 - 10-28-2006 , 09:55 PM

Hi,

My '95 Town Car with 4.6 SOHC V-8 and 95K is missing on the # 1
cylinder. The computer says so, and the spark plug indicates incomplete
combustion as it
is somewhat blackish compared to the other seven. Compression is good on all
cylinders. There are no other trouble codes other than missfire in #1
cylinder. The miss comes and goes and is most likely to occur under light to
moderate
acceleration. Hard acceleration doesn't seem to bring on the miss...or at
least I can't tell. Sometimes the miss is accompanied by one or more
backfires into the intake plenum
especially at the beginning of a moderate acceleration. I have eliminated
the coil pack (swapped sides and # 1 is still the misser), spark plugs
(replaced all) , and plug wires (replaced) as the problem. All injectors
are getting 12 volts when the car is running. Should I be looking at fuel
delivery i.e. plugged injector, or even valve train problems or is there
something I have overlooked in the ignition or computor engine management
sector? My gut tells me it's ignition related, especially because of the
intermitent "cough" up the intake manifold...reminds me of crossfire
although it also reminds me of a lean condition...but why in only one
cylinder? Is there an electrical/electronic component that would only
effect the # 1 cylinder that I haven't already checked out, or should I
move on to fuel delivery or valve train?

Thank you in advance anyone who can help me.

Brad
