Orange Peel Paint Job

I had someone side swipe my car, while parked, and I took it in to a reputable
repair shop and I noticed that it has a fairly heavy orange peel look to it.
I understand this is pretty common but I think they could have done a smoother
job. They told me to leave the car with them and they can smooth it out. I
ended up taking it, since I needed the car that day, and will bring it back
next week. I'm wondering exactly what they are going to do or can do. Can
they make it worse, and this I should leave it, or let them do the work. I
will say they did an excellent job other wise, as far as the metal trim and
dents.

Well, you don't say what year the car is, but if it's a few years old
daily commuter special, I wouldn't worry over it too much. They may try
buffing it out a little, but once "orange peel" sets up, it's probably a
good bet the only real way to get rid of it is to wet sand and repaint. I
assume this is an insurance job, so you might try talking to the manager of
the shop first to see if they'll repaint it to make it right. If they won't
make it right, tell your insurance company that the job was unsatisfactory
amd ask if you can have it repainted somewhere else... It's worth a shot.

Thanks for your response. It's a 2000 Buick Park Avenue and it's insurance.
Anyway, I'll see what they plan on doing. Even if they can lesson the "golf
ball" look a bit, I'll be happy.
