Default Selling a car before registering in the state - 09-17-2006 , 10:43 AM

If I bought a new car (from out of state) and have not registered it in my
home state(NY), is it legall to sell it (due to some unexpected
circumstances I have to sell it). There is no lean on it(fully paid). The
car has only a few miles.
Obviously, I will be taking a hit in the price, that's ok.
I am looking to see if it is legal to do it. Or do I have to register and
pay the state tax before I can sell it.

Thanks a lot.

Generally, you can just hand the buyer, the title you received and let
them take it home...
