I drove over 100000 km in one car and over 80000 km in the other car and
never had a flat tire. Last month I purchased two sets of new Goodyear tires
and had them installed on each car. Since then I've had 2 flat tires, one on
each car. One was on the side of the tire and the other was on the the
rolling surface. Is this a case of bad luck or are the tires defective? Any
one else have a similar problem?

My guess is bad luck. Maybe there was a truck that spilled some nails on a
street near you and you happened to pick a couple up in your tires on both
vehicles.
