Hi,

New BMW 3-series owner. Regrettably, some of us are going through some
significant tranmission problems with new 3-series cars. There is
apparently a problem with many '03s and '04s (GM trannys). Here's what
we are grappling with. Some dealers have promised us new (vs. rebuilt)
trannys, but we don't know how to verify this. How can a novice tell
from the newly installed tranny whether it is new or rebuilt? Is there a
way to check some kind of build date on the casing? If so, where does
one look?
