Default Using sodium*silicate to seal muffler, is stupid. - 11-07-2006 , 03:25 AM

* when dry is very weak & brittle. I nearly demanded a refund
from the shop which sold me Permatex ( its printed instruction
asks users to use its * gel directly, its site has no further guide
on this gel )'s muffler sealer, I felt conned ( by Permatex &
importer in msia ) : if necessary I'll show ministry of trade's
officers that dry * is [i] too weak / brittle for this task [ii] can
not stick well to metal ( however clean ).
Luckily http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sodium_silicate taught
me to add acid to * to convert * to silicic acid which can dry as
silica gel ( strong & sticks well to metal - on my 2nd attempt,
melting point is even higher than *'s ),.2 ( high school )
chemistry books ( which I have ) do not.
Why doesn't a chemical company like Permatex sell silicic
acid instead, for this task, & make life easier for users ? Does
any manufacturer sell ready mixed ( tedious if done manually )
silicic acid ?
