To be accurate, 2/3 of the adhesive between the baseplate and the windshield did fail, but 1/3 did not resulting in a dime-size piece of windshield still attached to the baseplate. I assume the best adhesive to re-attach the baseplate-to- windshield surface is still rearview mirror adhesive, but what is the best adhesive to re-attach the glass-to-glass surface? |

The same adhesive will work but, The rest of the windshield will likely fail. The chipped area will develop cracks as the glass heats/cools/gets stressed. Better idea is to go to a glass place and have them do a spot repair (stone chip) and then install the mirror. These guys are likely the best people to talk to about this problem. Or break the rest of the glass and have insurance pony for a new windshield. Pete |

When a tech from SafeLite saw that the chip and crack was on the inside of the windshield, he said his company will not even attempt to fix the problem. The SafeLite tech said that he is only authorized to fix chips and cracks that are on the outside of the windshield and that have not penetrated through to the inside surface. Might a different national or independent company have different policies or capabilities? Thanks! Joe |

Phone around to other shops with the same story and see if the answer changes. Think about getting replacement glass or if that's a toughie right now, think about a higher/lower mirror location and fill the hole with clear silicone. Pete |
