We think the alam stopped them taking anything and may stop them
touching it again but we were wondering (whilst bending the door back
into shape for him) if there were any aftermarket security products
that would *neatly* reduce the risk of this form of attack (apart from
a garage or guards dogs that is)?

I know you can get security deadlocks for vans but for this position
on a card door ..? I suppose the passenger one could be something on
the inside (like a toilet door bolt <g>) but the drivers side would
need to be external (basic key) or remote (with a failsafe backup)
etc?

They can still break glass etc but that can't be as attractive as just
opening a door can it?
Move to a less pikey area? Get a less pikey car? I'm sure pikey is the key
here.

Perhaps he ought to drive a less chavvy car,
What else would be appropriate for a young person these days and be
less 'Chavvy'? My first 'car' was a Morris Minor van ..?

Ah, now that's always the rub isn't it. I don't have anything vaulable
so can't leave it on view and I'm not sure this time he did either ..
last time I believe it was his CD's. The don't seem to bother with my

shrug
If they can't do the door, they'll do the glass. Or something else.
Possibly, or move on to the next car they can bend open quietly and
get into easily once done so?

All the best ..

Less chavvy than a Corsa?

Just about *ANYTHING* with wheels (except a Saxo)

Yep he may as well leave it unlocked, hopefully that way they will just take
what they want and not do much damage.
I did sorta suggest that to him this morning ..

Or get an alarm with proximity sensors,
if it chirps at them before they start they will probably move on to another
target.
That could work .. *except*, his car is often parked directly
outside his house, next to the 1m wide pavement and I assume 'passers
by' would / might set it off?

All the best ..

time to fight crime.
fix a shotgun to the inside of the roof, fix a bit of string to the trigger,
fix the other end to the top of the door..
i dont think they will come back again,
Something I've always wanted to do .. then there's the time you forget
to disable the 'alarm' .. ;-(

I think 'entrapment' is 'ok' as well .. fill a car with pretty things
... and some explosives ... <evil grin>

All the best ..

If this is happening on a regular basis I'd leave it unlocked! Make sure it
has an immobiliser.
I asked him if it had such and I think the answer was yes ..

Does the alarm still work if the car's not locked?
Pass, I'll ask the next time I see him ..

Leave the glove box open and remove the rear window tray etc.
Then they will see his big speakers? 'kids' <sigh>

Remove the
front of the radio if he has one.
I think he does that anyway.

Mind you, they broke into my kitcar looking for the radio .. it didn't
have .. ? ;-(

yeah but they'll do more damage to the interior I'm sure!

Are the potential thieves bending back the window then opening the door
from the inside?
I believe so yes ...

can't be done (the opening from inside bit)
Hmm, good point .. I'll check with him .. and that could be easier to
fit than anything else?

Cheers ..

Hi All,

Try a wireless cam in the car linked to a VCR in the house. Pick a cam that
uses a 12V mains adaptor. Some come with IR lamps for night time use.

We spoke about that too (and I already have the kit) and that would at
least allow him to confirm who they think it is. Not sure what then
though ..?

I did ask his Mium (the local neighbourhood watch rep) if she had
reported it to the Police and she said she hadn't .. 'what's the
point' ..?

Well I believe the point is they can then see how much crime is going
on in an area and could theoretically assign more resources this way
(patrols etc) ?

All the best ...
