Default How best to clean grease from paintwork? - 10-01-2005 , 02:11 PM

Picked up a nice old Volvo 850 for the missus today. There are quite a
few spots of what looks like grease on the (metallic) paintwork - didnt
really notice them in the rain.

Trying normal car wash shampoo seemed to just spread it around. So what
would be the best product for getting it off without damaging paint/lacquer.

Also any recommended polishes/waxes to get a top shine and protection?
Autoglym or Turtle ?

Thanks for any tips

Lighter fluid.

Failing that if you splash out on the tar spot removers that you can get
they should work well.

White spirit is best to get grease off from paintwork.

Not really - it's just petrol without the detergent and other additives and
most car paintwork should be proof against that!

No - it's only rather clean petrol with fewer additives.

You'd be surprised at how resilient most modern paints are to solvents.
Even Cellulose thinners wont touch many of them.
Probably wouldn't affect yours.
