Default Mondeo external temperature sensor readings - 04-15-2007 , 06:42 PM

Anyone got any ideas what is causing this and, more importantly, how
to fix it? My Mondeo's trip computer's external temperature function
has started misbehaving. With the ignition on, it will give the
correct reading. However, when you start the engine, the displayed
temperature starts to step down, one degree at a time, to varying but
obviously incorrect readings - the "record" is -40°C!

Sounds somewhat similar to that on my long departed Safrane - improved
temporally after a dealer service.

Possible faulty earth somewhere.

Light travels faster than sound. This is why some people appear bright

Sounds to be unlikely that it would be to blame, but an easy check is
to change the sensor. On the Granada and Scorpio it is located at the
front, below the bumper. Its a small black module which just clips into
a hole, pull the spring back and it should drop out. Try unplugging and
plugging it in a few times, it might have suffered a little contact
corrosion due to its location.

An update - since posting my original, the damned thing seems to be
behaving itself! I will still give the connector - even though it
looks pretty well sealed - a blast of contact cleaner, though. I
wondered about a faulty earth too at first, especially as the fault
was so intermittent, but all of the computer's other functions give
steady and plausible readings.
